Jacob Miller with special guest Hemma (Indie Folk) $5

Tuesday, October 2, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

A Wisconsin native, Jacob Miller left his hometown for Portland, OR the summer of 2009 via Amtrak; bringing with him only a suitcase and a Fender Jaguar guitar. After just one year in the city – he left to travel North America to study and perform music while working on various farms and ranches between travels. Time spent as a farm hand in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina shaped his devotion to the finger picking style of the region. Playing along with old recordings and locals in the surrounding areas of Appalachia, Miller delved into the inner workings of the music’s style and history.

Several jaunts and near 2 years later, Miller returned to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a new group. Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners was formed on the porches and in the backyards of East Portland. Leading the band, Jacob also managed and wrote for the 6 piece roots/swing group for their 5 1/2 duration. After extensive touring and releasing 4 studio albums, Jacob and the Crooners disbanded August of 2017.

Miller now focuses his efforts on a different kind of songwriting and storytelling. With an affinity for minimalist pop, and firm roots planted in American traditional music – Jacob Miller crafts a sound unique to his style and abilities.

Hemma’s songs float melodies that characterize American Country music, while sustaining a penchant for the modern touch of synthesized sound. Swedish for ‘at the home of one’s parents’, Hemma practices this craft with deep respect for the authenticity of the homespun song. Having grown up in a musical family, with whom she recorded 10 albums by the age of 15, Hemma is at home in the studio, on stage, on tour, and in song.
