Born and raised in small town Minnesota, songwriter Nolan John grew up surrounded by wheat fields under northern lights. So it’s no surprise that’s kind of how most folks would describe his music: americana tunes with an ambient gloss.

Although he started playing guitar and performing in junior high, it wasn’t until after college that he tried his hand at songwriting. It started in a Minneapolis apartment with a song about the city he now calls home. After he’d written enough songs to fill a short set, he performed his first solo show in 2011 and has been playing Minnesota venues ever since.

In 2013 he collaborated with producer and bassist Jimmy Stofer (The Fray, Ryan Bingham, Weather Maps) and a some talented friends to record a few favorite songs at a Minneapolis studio. What came from those sessions was the City Lights EP. With the sounds of softly-strummed guitars and reverb-drenched falsetto, these songs take the listener through the journey of youth, love, and summertime. The record was mixed by Brian Joseph (PHOX, Bon Iver) at April Base Studios in Eau Claire, WI and mastered by Huntley Miller in Minneapolis.

Nashville influenced singer-songwriter Matthew French’s music and lyrics catch at the strings of hope hidden within heartache. Guitar in hand, coffee cup nearby; the melody transports and the words tell a story. Our story. A human story. Matthew’s audiences feel themselves reflected in the warmth of his voice. Not strangers, just unmet friends.
