April 2024

Luke Callen + Mckain Lakey $15

Thursday, April 25 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

In an age of quick fixes, flashing screens, and pop ‘songs’ that are more formula than art, an album that takes its sweet time is a radical act. “Also Going Nowhere”, Luke Callen’s third full-length effort is just that - a collection of songs that spread out through time and space, dripping with honest Midwest charm and a mischievous glint. It’s music that you can relax into, paired with lyrics you’ll want to chew on and savor, that ask something of their listener. These songs are proof and reminder: you don’t actually have to go anywhere at all to, you know, get somewhere.

Swing Brunch with Patty and the Buttons $6

Sunday, April 28 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Aster Cafe, 125 SE Main Street
Minneapolis, MN 55414 United States

Patty and The Buttons preach the gospel of hot rhythm and happy feet. The band is similar to what you would find in a dance hall, cafe or nightclub anywhere around the world between 1920-1940. Despite being an ensemble firmly rooted in tradition, the band presents their music without being shackled to history. They play their own compositions as well as takes on music of the era. Patty’s eclectic taste gives the band diverse influences including New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Western Swing, Gypsy Melodies, Ragtime Piano Blues, Jug Music and 1930′s Popular Song. The core instrumentation of accordion, clarinet, guitar and bass is light and swift, but also melancholic and lush when it needs to be. Patty, mostly known as an accordionist doubles as the bands vocalist. His voice is inspired most by the old time hollers and croons from the dawn of recording once described as “Tom Waits meets Rudy Vallee.” More than anything, The Buttons is a group that is always enjoying themselves… Which seems to give audiences permission to do the same.

Lovehouse w/ TBA $12

Friday, May 17 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Lovehouse is an indie rock band, beginning as the recording brainchild of Henry Seymour (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) and Parker Reudy (Lead Guitar). After rounding out the roster with Joe Flood (Bass Guitar) and Kevin Fischer (Drums) some years later, Lovehouse recorded their debut EP, Shades of Red. Lovehouse delivers an original, captivating vibe that is all their own, consisting of both energetic danceable songs, as well as introspective heartfelt tunes. Unabashed by the norms, Lovehouse is a group of Midwestern homebodies who play their own style of music, creating an ageless, relatable, and painfully honest sound for our times. They now reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota, looking forward to their bright future.
