An evening with Becky Schlegel and The High 48s (Bluegrass) $15

Friday, December 13, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

In 2020, the High 48s will be teaming up with Becky Schlegel, combining their high-energy modern bluegrass sound with Schlegel’s soulful singing and her sophisticated take on three-chords-and-the-truth country songwriting.

Although this will be the first time they’ve performed together as a band, they’ve been collaborating for years.

“We were Becky fans long before we started the band, but it took us a few years to work up the courage to ask if she had any songs for us,” said the 48s’ fiddler and mandolinist, Eric Christopher.

And as it turned out, she did have some songs. Lots of them.

The 48s recorded Becky Schlegel’s “Baltimore and Ohio,” which she penned with Nashville songwriter Craig Market, for their 2014 release Great Northern Railroad, and “Christmas Every Day” for 2016’s Holidays with the High 48s.

But each time they picked a song for the record, there were many more gems left on the cutting room floor — not enough room on the album.

According to Christopher, “That was our first inkling that there might be more to this collaboration than borrowing a song every couple of years.”

So, in the summer of 2019, Becky and 48s went into the studio recorded and “Laramie,” their first single.

“Laramie,” a Becky Schlegel song, tells a story of lost love set against the windswept plains of eastern Wyoming.

About the High 48s

Since forming in northeast Minneapolis in 2006, the High 48s have been making music that combines the soulful sound of classic bluegrass with a modern attitude.

They’re a band with one foot in tradition and the other in the world of music today, and one of the few who can find an overlooked bluegrass classic in a song by M. Ward or the Clash then throw down hard on a standard by Bill Monroe.

Becky Schlegel

Her music is original, drawing on the influence of classic country, bluegrass, folk, and her own thoughtful spirit. Becky’s incredible voice floats, whispers then soars above music of the highest quality. She takes her listeners on a musical journey, exploring new places and meeting new people in every song.
