An evening with Ben Glaros (Rock) $8
Saturday, September 15, 2018 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Guitarist/singer/songwriter Ben Glaros is a musical explorer for life. From his new wave days in the ‘80’s with the Tone Poets (with fellow future luminaries Michael Ferrier of Fathom Lane and Steve Roehm of the New Standards) to his current adventures as a solo artist he has never stopped making music and evolving.
His roots in ‘60’s psychedelia and ‘80’s indie rock are still evident but along his way he’s absorbed so much music you can’t put a label on his sound. Early heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Paul Westerberg have been joined by everyone from jazz genius John Coltrane to country rock vocalist Gram Parsons. The result is not a self conscious effort to be different but the natural expression of a deep and sincere love of music.
Since resigning from his guitar post in Fathom Lane after playing on their first two critically acclaimed albums, Glaros has refocused on developing new sounds of his own. In 2016 he released the power pop EP “Celebrated Summerteeth” then headed to the basement to practice and indulge in his recurring obsession with jazz. When the result of the presidential election of 2016 came in he responded quickly with two furious EP’s of punk rock with his trio DumpTrunk featuring Paul Pirner and Steve Sutherland of the 757’s. Then he was back in the basement with more determination than ever to focus on his work as an artist.
After over a year break from performing, Glaros is excited to be heading back to the Aster for this special night. He’s ready to share new sounds, new songs and new energy, and the man dubbed a “guitar ace” by Chris Riemenschneider in the Minneapolis Star Tribune is playing guitar and singing better than ever.
