MMC presents: Stephanie Claussen & David Gerald Sutton (Celtic/Folk/Acoustic & Cinematic Pop/Ambient) $8

Friday, March 1, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Join us for a night of music played on traditional stringed instruments by MN Music Coalition members with a bit of a twist. David has been able to find a unique voice in the world of music looping together elements of ambient, classical, and jazz into something new from the violin. Twin-Cities harpist Stephanie Claussen invites audiences to explore new locales and eras through her music, both emotionally and intellectually. City Pages called The Aster the “best place to go on a first date”, so join us for an unforgettable evening!

The MMC is a statewide network for independent musicians who care about creating and sustaining a vibrant popular music community. Through education, communication, and advocacy, we create access to resources and professional development services.

Minneapolis-based five-string violinist, string arranger, and composer David Gerald Sutton has been able to find a unique voice in the world of music with his violin, not limited to the addition of an extra string on his instrument. Utilizing guitar effect pedals and taking a page from Ed Sheeran’s book on looping, David has combined these electronic elements with almost 20 years of classical and jazz studies to carve out a place for the violin in today’s world of synthesized music.

The emotion and passion that exudes from his playing can be felt by audiences of all ages and genre preferences, calming anxiety-driven minds and restoring fond memories of joy and wonder. From the streets of Minneapolis to venues across the nation, David Gerald Sutton is sure to provide an experience unlike any other heard from a violinist before. His newest single, Retrograde, is available on all music platforms.

Twin-Cities harpist Stephanie Claussen invites audiences to explore new locales and eras through her music, both emotionally and intellectually. Influenced by her love of fairy tales, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the world music section at her local library, she performs her own mixture of Scottish tunes, J.S. Bach, and anything rich in medieval or French harmonies.

Claussen is the 2018 US National Scottish Harp Champion and performs solo and with various ensembles throughout the Upper Midwest. She has released four albums including Soirée à Montpellier and Light so Brilliant. “Every set, every piece was a joy to listen to.”
