Vacillating between laugh-out-loud imagery and painstaking sincerity, Zaq Baker’s songs dwell on night-owl heartbreak and on growing up. His lyrics and arrangements reconcile fiercely original rock piano architecture; the adolescent spirit and catchy-or-die attitude of pop-punk; and a healthy amount of musical theatre. This night at the Aster marks a very special solo performance to feature a fair amount of new material.
