Tina Schlieske, originally hails from Minneapolis, MN and is best known for fronting the band Tina and the B-Side Movement, now Tina and the B-Sides.

Minnesota Acoustic Guitar Showcase is a musical collective of 10 Twin Cities based guitarists - they cover a diverse range of styles in their solo sets and collaborations of rotating players. Tonight’s show features Dan Schwartz, Ben Abrahamson and Sam Breckenridge.

This summer Courtney Yasmineh is on a journey, rediscovering her roots in Minnesota where she fell in love with the music of Bob Dylan and began her early songwriting career as a young girl in the North Woods. She’s releasing her ninth album in September, an album of songs written by her songwriting heroes. These recordings have brought her performances close to her rustic sensibilities, her summers on Lake Vermilion, her winter on the frozen lake, alone at seventeen. The trio is Rob Genadek, studio guru, amazing vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist who has been her collaborator now for fifteen years. Jon James, on bass or lead guitar and harmonies, who has also worked with Courtney through several albums. The trio heads to Europe with the new album in late September.

Ben David is one of the most important new songwriters emerging from one of the most vibrant music scenes in America-Minneapolis. Minnesota has been the home to many of the last century's greatest, like Westerberg, Dylan, Prince, and now, in a new century, add a new name, Ben David.

Ben hails from the prairie lands of southwestern Minnesota and at first his songs have the same unassuming quality of those long horizons, but slowly details emerge and coalesce into the sounds of longing, becoming, young love, heart break and surprisingly deep ten cent philosophizing.

Andrea von Kampen is an independent folk singer-songwriter based in Lincoln, Nebraska, whose effortless vocal delivery has been praised by Hear Nebraska as “soulful and worn-in.” With the successful release of two EP’s, Another Day (2015) and Desdemona (2016), a Christmas EP (2016), an Audiotree Live album (2017), and her debut full-length album Old Country (2019), Andrea has quickly established herself in the recording studio and on the road. She has shared the stage with artists such as Tall Heights, Ira Wolf, Dead Man Winter, The Brother Brothers, Dead Horses, Darling West and many more.

Elliot Blaufuss commands the stage with passionate soul and unharnessed energy to capture the hearts of audiences everywhere. With a performance history to lust over, Blaufuss has played some of the dirtiest clubs, ritziest hotels, tiniest cafes and most legendary venues in the world as Musical Director and multi-instrumental band member for platinum artists like Phillip Phillips and Eric Hutchinson. Elliott worked with platinum producer John Fields (Demi Levato and The Jonas Brothers) to complete and release his second solo record “Red” last summer. Blaufuss currently lives in Nashville, but is sure to infuse his native Minnesota funk roots into the music he writes.

Still Unstill makes art of the in-between spaces: in-between structure and disorder, in-between nature and civilization, in-between density and levity. Centered around Peter Breen’s songwriting and keyboard playing, the full group adds brings together textures of experimental rock, improvisations from modern jazz, and vocal harmonies from traditional American folk music. Still Unstill consists of Willow Waters on electric guitar and Ryan Hays on electric bass alongside Andrew Sletten on drumset and Molly Sowash on vocals.

Kraig Jarret Johnson is an American songwriter, singer, guitarist and recording artist from Minneapolis who has performed and recorded with Run Westy Run, The Jayhawks, Golden Smog, Iffy, Joseph Arthur & The Lonely Astronauts, members of R.E.M., Ray Davies of The Kinks and his own band, Kraig Jarret Johnson & The Program.

Lazer Lloyd is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and an international recording artist influenced by Americana, rock, blues, gospel, folk, country, southern rock, and the great guitar traditions of power and groove from Hendrix to Wes Montgomery. Lazer's music is a unique combination of roots rock, folk, country and blues. His songs deal with the issues of today as well as the common human struggle to find love and meaning. Lloyd's warm connection with each audience makes every show a new journey from acoustic heart to electric fire.

Shawn Stelton is a singer/songwriter based out of Minneapolis. His first release, Wallflower’s Lament (2016), has a pleasant combination of catchy melodies, engaging arrangements, and lyrics that tell stories. The songs were written over a 14 month span and were spurred on by Shawn’s participation in the Jeremy Messersmith Songwriting Sessions. An EP, From the Vault, and second full length album, All is Quiet, continued building on these themes and styles. A third full length album is in the works for 2020.

Singer-songwriter M French has quickly become a regular on the burgeoning Twin Cities Americana music scene. Known for his positive and uplifting live shows, French's melodies transport and his lyrics tell a story. Our story. A human story. Raised in small town Ohio and now residing in Minneapolis, French released his EP Winding Road in 2016. Building on the success of Winding Road, French's debut full length album, Sweet Love, releases in the Fall of 2018. Sweet Love offers 10 original songs exploring the Americana landscape. Produced by Danny O’Brien (The Farewell Circuit, DEM YUUT), and recorded during the long Minnesota winter of 2018, the tracks provide a sonic foundation built upon catchy guitar hooks, and the blending of pedal steel and synth lines. American Pleasure Dome is an all original Indie Rock band from Minneapolis MN. Their introspective sound draws on bands they love like the Pixies, Guided By Voices, and The Cars. There is plenty of intrigue and storytelling sprinkled throughout the songs, which are all written by lead singer/guitarist Hans Schumacher. Laura Hugo is originally from the Navajo Nation but has been calling the Twin Cities her home for the last 7 years. She’ll make you feel the feels with her melodic and catchy tunes about heartbreak. You’ll probably find her frequenting open mics, playing at various Minneapolis music venues and watching others play shows at least 4 days a week.

Combining intimate jazz improvisation with cinematic melodies and rock-and-roll verve, DRINKING BIRD is a new trio that draws from a liberally defined American Songbook to build a sound of its own. Comprising New Yorker Eladio Rojas on the drums, Norway-bred guitarist Jacob Matheus, and Pacific Northwest native Tree Palmedo on trumpet, the members of Drinking Bird have also performed with folk singers, rock bands, and a host of jazz greats. While they had played together several times over the years in both Boston and New York, the three officially formed Drinking Bird in 2017 after a series of informal improvisational get-togethers on New York's Upper West Side.

Tom Lieberman is perhaps best known for his association with public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion, where he worked variously on the performance, creative and production staff from 1976-86.  His work on APHC started Tom on a career path as an award-winning writer, composer and producer for radio, television, stage and screen.  Tom is, with Tim Sparks and Prudence Johnson, a founding member of the seminal vocal jazz trio Rio Nido, an association that continues today. His original songs have been heard from Sesame Street to Sweet Land, and his 2013 recording of original songs, “Common Denominator” was received enthusiastically by listeners, press & broadcasters worldwide, with Minneapolis StarTribune reviewers placing it on their annual “Top Ten Albums” list, describing it as, “bluesy, simmering, profoundly philosophical,” “gentle, playful, romantic and infectious,” and “a charming, eclectic album of original songs.”

What’s a man, anyway? It’s the central question at the heart of Minnesota-based songwriter Andy Cook's new EP Modern Man—a 22-minute indie-rock/Americana ride that stokes twinges of nostalgia with jangly guitars, articulate synth lines and driving percussion. Modern Man is out now on Good Eye Records and is the fifth release from the Brooklyn, NYC-based label.

Wilkinson James was born in 2008 when Liz Wilkinson and AJ Scheiber met up and merged their singing and songwriting into a musical partnership that one fan described as "the bastard offspring of June Carter Cash and Townes Van Zandt." Their first (self-titled) album, released in 2014, showed their love of folk, honky-tonk, and country blues; their 2016 follow-up, Abandon, added touches of jazz, torch, and swing to their folk / honky-tonk base, blending dobro, fiddle, and saxophone with Liz and AJ’s tightly knit harmonies and classic-yet-fresh original tunes. Their Aster performance will feature songs old and new in duo, trio, and full-band formats, making for a lively, varied, and joyful night of music.

Taylor James Donskey
follows in the alternative country tradition to share some everyday stories from everyday people. Simple melodies over a lived in sounds invite you to hear about these people, their relationships and how they thrive in times like these. These songs are the lasting impressions that those individuals have left by living a simple but impactful life. Never a polished feel, but always just right, Taylor builds on the solid foundations that were given new life by Gillian Welch; perpetuated by Jeff Tweedy and set on its head by Blake Mills. The self titled EP is due out fall of 2019.

Mariah Mercedes is a pop/R&B artist from the Twin Cities delivering smooth grooves with a perpetual smirk.

Jeremy Ylvisaker is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer who has worked with John Prine, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Andrew Bird, Sandra Bernhard, Damo Suzuki (Can), members of Prince’s New Power Generation, Mouse on Mars, Swamp Dogg, The Suburbs, film maker Chuck Statler ("The Truth About Devolution"), Merce Cunningham dance company, and many others playing on five continents in venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, The Cape Town Jazz Festival, The Ed Sullivan Theater (The Late Show with David Letterman), and other television programs including Austin City Limits and the Colbert Report. He composes and improvises a variety of instrumental music, some of which to accompany dance performances such as "Stripe Tease", some of which for use in films such as "Pitchfork Unsung: Dan Corrigan", "Rhythmic" (feat. Andrew Bird), and "Trophy Husband." Some just for listening while you do your thing. And a lot of rock n roll.

Harbor & Home is an alternative rock band from minneapolis, mn. Their sound embodies modern roots americana with classic rock n’ roll. Following the release of their first album “dark days” in 2014, the band toured across the u.s. sharing the stage with such acts as Jeremy Messersmith, Eric Hutchinson, Mark Chesnutt, Flor, From Indian Lakes and Austin Plaine. They recently released their sophomore album “fighter” in may of 2017 after working with producer and engineer Christopher Furst at Studio 65 in Ham Lake, MN. Their latest single "You Want It Too" was released in January of 2018.

Mississippi-born singer/songwriter Charlie Mars
is a country- and folk-inflected pop artist blessed with a warm vocal croon and a knack for crafting poignant, earthy songs. Born in 1974 in Laurel, Mississippi, Mars grew up listening to various styles of pop/rock, from Michael Jackson to the Violent Femmes. Just prior to his senior year of high school, Mars moved with his family to Jackson, Mississippi, where he attended Jackson Preparatory School and played in the band Adley Madidafus. After graduating high school in 1992, he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. During this time, he began seriously pursuing a music career, often playing with fellow SMU student, singer/songwriter Jack Ingram. It was also while at SMU that Mars formed the Charlie Mars Band and released several albums, including 1995’s Broken Arrow, 1997’s Born & Razed, and 1999’s End of Romance.

Everyone knows that Louisiana is a great melting pot of music, food and Southern culture. Will Payne Harrison simmered in that pot for most of his life, soaking in influences of Traditional Cajun, Louisiana Blues, Swamp Pop, New Orleans Brass Bands and Zydeco. Even after departing Louisiana for Nashville to start his own solo career, he has kept in touch with his Louisiana Roots making his own unique blend of Americana and Roots music. On East Nashville Blues, Will Payne Harrison dove deeper into Bluegrass, Country and Singer-Songwriter genres, using a cast of top-notch Nashville musicians. With his newest album, Living With Ghosts, Harrison went back to his roots, bringing in the Crème de la crème of Louisiana musicians featuring The Rayo Brothers members (Jesse Reaux, Lance Kelehan and Jordan Ardoin) along with lead guitarist Jim McGee. Fats Kaplin (John Prine) even joined in on pedal steel and fiddle. Slated to be out in late Summer/early Fall, Living With Ghosts will encompass the perfect blend of Will Payne Harrison’s Louisiana/Nashville sound.

The Midnight Choir Social Clubs sound was born in the gospel tents of the New Orleans Jazz Festival, the protester filled streets of Selma and the soul driven back porch whiskey Blues.
The drums and bass provide the funky solid rhythm and beat which forms the bedrock of the band. The guitar and saxophone carry the energy to a fever pitch. The vocals, led by David Ballman and assisted by the Resistor Sisters, ride the wave over the edge drenching everybody in sight. Charlie Van Stee is the singer and songwriter from Minneapolis based band VAN STEE. Having released their sophomore album “Heartbreaker Nervewrecker Meansucker” in 2018, Charlie turned to playing new original solo material as well as reimagined songs from the VAN STEE catalog in a more stripped down setting interspersed with songs that helped shape him as a songwriter. Alina Maira is a singer/songwriter from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, recently planting herself in Minneapolis. Her songs are meant to provoke human connection through the avenue of shared experiences; reminding every listener that they are never alone in what they feel. Music has helped her in a myriad of ways since early childhood, and it remains one of the most core parts of her. She is currently recording an EP that is expected to release by the end of Fall 2019; meanwhile two of her singles are already available on all media platforms.

Bryan was born in Lawton/Fort Sill, (Comanche County) Oklahoma into a musical family. Growing up he listened to all kinds of music. His parents played in cover bands and thanks to his father, he learned to play drums while he was still very young. Drums came natural to him and he became so good at it that his parents frequently invited him to play with them. Since their bands played all different styles of music, White feels it gave him a great perspective and helped to make him the diverse artist that he is today. "Although country music has my heart, I still love and respect all kinds of musical expression."

Those familiar with Lucy Wainwright Roche are aware of her bell tone voice, her unshakable melodies, and her knack for wise, wry lyrics that clench the heart.  It’s no surprise that Wainwright Roche is the daughter of Suzzy Roche (The Roches) and Loudon Wainwright III, half sibling to Rufus and Martha Wainwright. She grew up steeped in music. 

But Lucy has carved out her own career as a touring singer/songwriter and recording artist, having sold over 50 thousand copies of her four critically acclaimed solo recordings released on her own label: Eight Songs, Eight More, Lucy, and There’s a Last Time for Everything.  Other recordings include a collaboration with her sister Martha Wainwright on Songs In the Dark, a collection of lullabies, and two duet recordings with her mother Suzzy Roche: Fairytale and Myth (winner of Vox Pop Independent Music Awards) and most recently Mud and Apples.

The Home Fires is an Americana duo based in Minneapolis comprised of critically acclaimed singer/songwriters, Sarah Morris and Vicky Emerson. Sarah and Vicky are established touring artists and after developing a close friendship and playing live shows together, they unearthed a gorgeous new sound featuring Sarah's clear, melodic voice and Vicky's warm, weathered harmony. In 2018, they were nominated for Americana Artist of the Year by the Midwest Country Music Association and opened for Emmylou Harris at the Ordway.

Jim Gruidl is a stalwart member of the Minneapolis music scene. From his early days as a member of The Bloods (Gark Records) he has carved out a path as a songwriter, and a guitar player. “I’ve been really lucky over the years to be able to team up with great local musicians and create art, whether it was playing my stuff or just playing guitar on their projects. The Buddy System is just the next logical step in that progression.”

Meet GB Leighton, a band named after one of the region’s most incendiary live performers and consistently solid songwriters, Brian Leighton. Through more than a decade and nine studio albums, Leighton and his six-piece band have been tearing up rock clubs, church fundraisers and even a few fan’s living rooms with a slew of songs that connect with the heart and couples singing along out on the dance floor. “A man of the people” is a phrase usually reserved for statesmen and politicians, but for Leighton, whose politics are more conservative and libertarian, it’s a fitting description when you see him in action working a joint, or on his 2006 DVD, Live at the Minnesota Music Café.

Ye Ye Pow is a tribute to the super-fantastic pop music of 1960s France. While the Beatles conquered the world, a pantheon of French pop stars like Francoise Hardy, Jacques Dutronc and Serge Gainsbourg reigned in France. It was called "Ye-Ye" music, as in Yeah Yeah! Billy Johnson is a singer/songwriter from Minneapolis. Billy was the lead singer of The Hillcats, and is the lead singer of Billy Johnson’s Roadshow. He also has an acoustic duo called B-TEAM with George McKelvey. Billy has recorded 10 CDs. He strums a Gibson guitar with soul, and has a great vocal range.
