Aaron Tinjum and the Tangents + New Seven $10

Friday, December 20 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Aaron Tinjum is a Minnesota-based songwriter.

He formed his folk rock project, Aaron Tinjum and the Tangents, while playing the many coffeehouses, dive bars, used clothing stores and furniture shops of the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin, Texas. In 2012, they released their debut Mirrors in the Dark and were honored by the Austin Mayor and City Council with their own official band holiday.

After a stint in Washington, D.C. and the release of Foreign & Domestic in 2016, Tinjum returned home to Minnesota to begin work on his next album. With the newly re-formed Tangents, he recorded his third and latest release Zinger at Sovereignty Recording in Minneapolis. The latest entry in Tinjum’s catalogue is arguably his best and most mature songwriting to date, with songs exploring the topics of aging and expectations.

The group has opened for a number of national touring acts, including Sam Amidon, James McCartney, Reeve Carney and Kawehi.

New Seven is the musical project of singer-songwriter Dominic Acito.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dominic’s family moved around the world to Belgium, Thailand, Japan, Italy, and Scotland. After moving back to Minnesota in 2021, Dominic started New Seven, which gets its name from the local shorthand for the new 7/11 built near where he grew up in Bangkok.

Music was Dominic’s constant companion and obsession during his extensive travels. He describes his lyrical style as “world-weary and a little literary.” His music is stylistically Americana and is often compared to Bill Callahan, Craig Finn, and The National.

In 2021, New Seven released their debut album, The Colossus of Uptown, which gets its name from the near-mythical statue The Colossus of Rhodes. Ian Farmer of Slaughter Beach, Dog, and Modern Baseball said of the album, “Lyrically, musically, and tonally, it’s exceptional from track to track.”

These days, Dominic performs under New Seven mainly as a solo act, occasionally collaborating with other musicians and adding lesser-known cover songs discovered during his travels to his ever-growing setlist of original songs.
