Art Vandalay w/ Scott Zosel $15

Friday, March 8 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Art Vandalay returns to the Aster Cafe to christen the hull of their first live album, One Night at the Aster. Recorded inside this decadent Minneapolis venue during a beautiful summer evening in 2022, the album finds the band simply on fire, delivering a scorching set of their “impossibly catchy” (Duluth News Tribune) Americana.

Covering the full spectrum of their repertoire, One Night at the Aster captures the magic the band can conjure from the stage. From classics like “Fool’s Gold” and “Way It Goes,” to newer favorites “Architects” and “Never See You Again,” there’s a loose energy and infectious groove that never drags, taking the audience on a white-knuckled drive through 11 tracks of heartbreak, loss, and love. The album reaches its pinnacle with a scorching, never-before recorded take on JJ Cale’s “I’ll Make Love to You Anytime” as well as a rare version of their fan-favorite, “If You Love Me” with a lively trombone solo.

Since 2007, Art Vandalay has carved their place in the Twin Cities’ Americana scene, blending the vintage sounds of The Band with a modern vibe of The Black Keys. One Night at the Aster is a testament to Art Vandalay’s timeless songwriting and relentless performing for more than a decade.

Scott Zosel is a Minneapolis songwriter whose style features elements of folk-rock, some pop, with the fresh edge of country. A very articulate and mercurial sound that’s always catchy, irreverent and fun. Zosel continues to push the edge of Americana into a more pop direction, while still staying true to his folk-rock roots. Minneapolis DJ Ellen Stanley (KFAI) describes his music as “first-rate songwriting evoking the sunny roots rock sound of The Jayhawks.” Scott recently released his fourth studio album in May 2022 – Saturday’s Child.
