Barbaro is a progressive bluegrass band playing music for films about cooking. Spicy instrumentals, savory harmonies, and to-the-point songwriting creates a dynamic and captivating set for audiences of all ages and musical tastes. Barbaro began crafting it’s sound in the fall 2016 and has been evolving ever since. With an EP coming out in early 2018, and a full length album already in the works, the band’s tone is getting juicy and it’s originality is reaching medium-rare.
Barbaro brings together some of Minnesota’s lightly seasoned, only getting older musicians for a delectable bluegrass feast. Kyle Shelstad began his journey in Montana starting the band the “Kitchen Dwellers.” Isaac Sammis comes from the Winona music scene having played banjo with “Tin Can Gin.” Max Graham is undoubtably the kindest mandolin player in the Twin Cities area, leading multiple bands including everyone’s favorite “Kind Country.” Fiddler Rachel Calvert started playing bluegrass with the “Common Ground Company” and continues to collaborate with a number of exciting musical adventures.

We’re not from the Black Hills, the Texas Panhandle, or Appalachia. We’re from the Twin Cities. Damn proud of it, too, but we play country music, because it’s one of America’s native languages. We use it to tell our stories of love, good times, Grain Belt, and friends. Some are fact. Some are fiction with the truth hiding in there somewhere. All of them are heartfelt. We’re pickers, fiddlers, groovers, and harmonizers. We’re ready to make you sing along, get up and dance, or just sit and tap your toes. We’re The Federales.
