Carter Hulsey, Dylan Dunlap & Pelham (Americana/Folk) $10
Thursday, November 17, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Carter Hulsey (born June 28, 1988) is an American alt-country singer songwriter from Joplin, Missouri. Being raised by his mother and father gave him daily musical exposure to the likes of Willie Nelson, Elton John, and Jerry Jeff Walker — all on vinyl, of course. At age 13, Hulsey found his father’s acoustic Guild guitar, and his long love for music finally came to a head. He started writing songs. Hulsey’s sound and talent was developed with four bands prior to his breakaway as a solo artist in 2008. Hulsey blends honest lyrics, catchy melodies, undeniable hooks, folk and rock.

My name is Dylan James Dunlap and I’m a singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, CA. Music is on my mind from the moment I wake up in my bedroom studio to the moment I finally fall asleep in it, which is pretty late for most nights. I taught myself to play piano at a very young age as well as record & engineer in ProTools, which developed opportunities such as scoring short films and being able to track all of my own songs. Believe it or not, three hardcore years of persistence actually turned into being able to release my first debut album, “Thoughts Become Things”.
I’ve been on The Voice and I’ve sung on car commercials. I’ve opened up for popular artists and I’ve collaborated with Disney stars. I’ve performed at America’s most iconic venues and I’ve accumulated thousands of views/streams online. I’ve done a bunch of pretty things that look great on paper, but I want to take this moment to explain the thing that’s most important to me. Integrity.
Throughout many years of street performing in the subways of Boston, MA (during my year at Berklee College of Music) as well as Downtown Burbank, CA, I have strived to maintain the utmost integrity for my artistry. I’ve realized that playing my own originals on the street corner will probably generate less money, but create way more memories. I absolutely live for conversations with those that are willing to listen to my storytelling and am the kind of guy who doesn’t leave the music venue until I have talked to every single soul present!
It’s really important to me that I make it known that I am no different than anyone else pursuing their dream. Because of my constant availability to talk via social media as well as the fact that I host my own open mic every Tuesday night in Studio City, I truly feel like my purpose is to spread one simple idea:
Let’s not be alone in this world. We are all trying to succeed. Why not together? Stay tuned for some new music.

Pelham is living proof that raw talent, ambition and determination can still prevail in the ailing music industry. Previously performing under the name Jacob Jones, Pelham altered his stage name to stand out amongst the rest of the Jones’ in the music world. Raised in Madison, WI and now based in Minneapolis, MN, this 21-year-old singer-songwriter’s music has been described as an acoustic, foot-tapping, soulful blend. Undoubtedly unique and unwavering in his commitment to his artistic vision, Pelham portrays an intellect and maturity that penetrates through his music. After being told by countless authorities and peers that the music industry is a “hopeless” field to enter, Pelham has developed a thick skin and confidence that seeps through his voice and into his music.
Appealing to multiple genres and ages, Pelham’s emotionally driven lyrics and powerful voice captures the thoughts of heartbreak, loneliness, adventures, love and everything inbetween.
In 2015, Pelham released his first EP “Monster”. A portrayal of his instrumental, indie sound, Pelham’s songs are often compared to the likes of Ed Sheeran and The 1975.
Relatable and sincere – those are the two words that best describe Pelham’s sound. With a rare ability to take in the most simple moments and transforming them into a capturing song, with all of his work, Pelham speaks to listeners directly from his heart.
With lyrics and melodies that truly connect with people, Pelham has spent his time performing in coffee shops, bars, festivals and public events across the U.S. Most notably, Pelham has shared the stage with Maxwell Hughes – formerly of the Lumineers – Kiernan McMullan and Seabird. Pelham’s original music is driven from life experiences that fostered the gifted mind of this uniquely talented artist. On Valentine’s Day, Pelham released his latest single, “Coffee”, in anticipation for the young musician’s next project.
