Francis Emil Johnson with special guest Ruth $10
Thursday, August 18, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
FRANCIS EMIL JOHNSON is a Twin Cities songwriter whose original tunes borrow from country folk and Bossa Nova traditions. His latest release, “Dumb Punchlines” is an alternative folk/rock journey that attempts to find humor in heartbreak and depression.
Inspired by Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald, João Gilberto, David Berman, Sondre Lerche and others, Johnson got his start in 2012 at the Grand Kabaret in his hometown, New Ulm, MN. He opened for Jeff Braegelmann, a local legend, and soon thereafter began writing and recording demos. In 2017, he released his debut EP “You’re Still Gone,” and began performing as a soloist in the Twin Cities.
Later he formed a band and started performing as a four-piece. They recorded D.P. in 2020. The album combines aspects of soft folk music with heavier alternative rock, and contemplates the human experience in the over-saturated digital age.
