Joe Fahey & Wilkinson James (Folk-Rock)
Wednesday, June 29, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
$5Joe Fahey is a Minneapolis-based singer songwriter and leader of Carp 18 and The Bottom 40, he currently sings and plays guitar in a pyschedelic garage rock band called The Local Hermits. His songs have been played on the The Current, KFAI and NPR’s “Car Talk”. He has 5 albums out, most recent is “Somnambulst Chaser” released in March 2016 and has received very favorable reviews including this one by Chris Riemenschneider of the Minneapolis StarTribune: “What a charmer this one is. Fahey sounds like a free-association songwriter version of Tom Petty over richly textured, Dylan-meets-Feelies Americana arrangements in such wry, wordy gems as “The Drunken Prisoner of Circumstance.”
Wilkinson James, the band project of singer-songwriters Liz Wilkinson and AJ Scheiber, weaves strands of classic and contemporary country, folk, and blues into a tapestry of original songs that are all their own but you’d swear you heard somewhere before. One fan described their music as “the bastard offspring of June Carter Cash and Townes Van Zandt,” which sounds about right to them. Their Aster performance will feature Liz and AJ’s honky-tonk harmonies, back by a full band that includes sax, dobro, guitar, and a full rhythm section.
