Kelley Smith Album Release Show w/ My Grandma’s Cardigan $15
Sunday, December 11, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Northern MN-based folk artist Kelley Smith is new to the scene, and is releasing her first album – Moon Child – on November 11, ’22. Raised in the woods by musicians, Smith had always been inclined towards music. However, as a mom of four, the years rolled by wherein all her creative energies “…went into puppet shows, being a kitchen witch, and whatnot.” The ups and downs of love, parenting, mental health, and a global pandemic were catalysts that eventually led her back to music. Smith was in her mid 30’s when she began teaching herself guitar late at night. Later, pandemic lockdowns provided her with extra time and space to write her first songs.
Smith draws from a wide array of influences, but especially old-timey roots musicians like Doc Watson, Iris Dement, The Carter Family, and Gillian Welch. An emotive performer, she provides “a safe space for folks to feel their feelings.”
Smith’s debut release – Moon Child – comes across as a mid-life coming-of-age story. As an insomniac, she wrote this first batch of songs by moonlight. Moon Child evokes a sense of belonging, juxtaposed with escapism, as Smith croons about long-term love, grief, and her draw to the night sky.
“Moonchild is a great listen. Intimately personal with a wry sense of humor, Kelley takes the listener on a journey of becoming. A deep look inward to which we can all relate in one way or another.” – Dave Simonett (Trampled by Turtles)
My Grandma’s Cardigan is a folk rock group that came together in the heart of Winona, MN. What started as a folk duo jamming in a living room, has grown into a great group of friends that love playing music together. Their melodic harmonies and fun upbeat sounds have made their way across the midwest. They have a little something for everyone.
