Mary Strand CD Release Party w/ Mark & Ryan of The Melismatics, Little Man, and special guest Sarah Morris $15
Saturday, August 19 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Golden Girl is the work of Minneapolis-based lawyer-turned- novelist-turned-musician Mary Strand. All of the songs on the Golden Girl album explore themes of love, but each song offers a different spin on it: when it works and when it doesn’t.
Strand’s debut album will include five single releases, including Strand’s debut single, “Act As If,” which released in December 2022. The album itself will release on June 23, 2023. In conceptualizing, recording, and producing the album, Strand has worked closely with Ryan Smith of Soul Asylum and The Melismatics and Mark Wade of The Melismatics, with the goal of exploring different music eras but within the framework of the rock songs that Strand loves and naturally writes. Recorded and produced in the Twin Cities, Golden Girl primarily features Strand on guitar and lead vocals, Smith on guitar and vocals, Wade on bass and vocals, and Jack Strand – Mary’s son – on drums. One track, “I Don’t Want to Be Your Yesterday,” co-written by Strand and Sarah Morris, also features Morris on vocals. The album has been mastered by Greg Reierson of Rare Form Mastering.
Ryan Smith and Mark Wade formed The Melismatics back in 2001, making waves in the local music scene with their debut album “Postmodern Rock.” That momentum rippled into national and international tours, playing Lollapalooza, releasing 8 albums on several record labels, and having their music featured on MTV and many televisions shows and movies.
In 2016 Ryan also joined Soul Asylum as lead guitarist and has been recording and touring with them ever since. Mark has also lent his skills to the Grammy winning alternative rock band.
Now Mark and Ryan are playing acoustic duo performances featuring songs from the bands they have been in together as well as their favorite covers.
The best of classic guitar driven rock in one small package. Little Man has been described as across between George Harrison, David Bowie, T.Rex and Jack White with a familiar rock sound that is somehow all their own while heavily being inspired by spiritual and Zen themes.
An American rock band from Minneapolis lead by Chris Perricelli with classic rock, garage rock, psychedelic, and early 70’s glam rock influences. Zen inspired spiritual rock.
With special guest Sarah Morris
