Toussaint Morrison + Roz $10

Thursday, May 25, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Within less than a week of entering life, Toussaint Morrison was baptized in a New Orleans kitchen sink, named after the man who led the first successful slave rebellion, and raised by two activist parents who were called to the streets of the Crescent City to protest the Vietnam War. However, in a few years, he’d take a sudden move to the frozen tundra of Minneapolis by way of his parent’s divorce, and found himself playing toy instruments alongside his grandfather, a professional jazz trombonist. Years later, shuffling through his father’s tape collection during road trips to visit family in Detroit, Morrison was given a makeshift intro to Ice Cube’s … and as an adolescent between entirely different worlds and conditions he never asked for, began writing. Today, Toussaint has toured the country several times over with a live hip-hop band, as well as a solo artist, and released nearly a dozen albums. With an album set to drop in July of 2023, Morrison looks forward to translating his ballads to an acoustic performance at the Aster Cafe.

Give a musical theater major a guitar, and you’ll have the likes of Roz: a singer-songwriter and vocal coach who croons ballads of long lost romance to the metaphors of Disney fairytales and bar-close missed connections. On the fringe of releasing new music, Roz totes a portfolio of dozens of songs yet to be recorded, yet still being crafted in live performance such as her next show at the Aster Cafe.
