YEV is a local singer-songwriter whose music blends his Ukrainian immigrant roots with American influences. His eclectic style transcends cultural boundaries by incorporating elements of Indie Folk Rock, Vintage Pop, and Soul. This year’s recipient of the Cedar Commissions award, YEV’s mission has been to create music reflecting on current events in Ukraine, its history, and the resilient culture of its people. Slyly intense and disarmingly earnest, Bryn Battani weaves clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with vibrant arrangements. Influenced by artists like Fiona Apple, Andrew Bird and Regina Spektor, she primarily supports her lyrical craftsmanship with keyboard accompaniments and genre-bending “chamber pop” instrumentation colored by her theatrical background and Texas roots. Growing up in Austin, Bryn immersed herself in the area’s dynamic music scene, co-producing her debut EP All I Have to Offer You Is Anything You Want with Curtis McMurtry and Diana Burgess (of Mother Falcon) in 2020. Her sophomore EP Hang Your Clothes, recorded in both Austin and Minnesota, explores her relationship with ADHD through smart lyricism and lively accompaniments. Having recently relocated to Minneapolis, Bryn is eager to kickstart more collaborative projects and plans to release a single from her forthcoming self-produced EP this December.
