Barbara Manning + Buck Campbell $10
Tuesday, July 18, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Although Barbara Manning hasn’t played in Minneapolis since 2001, she has been touring and releasing albums since 1985 when her first band, garage neo-psychedelic trio 28th Day was in the top ten of the College Music Journal. She broke with that band and began a solo career which lead her to Matador records in the 1990s. Manning released 4 critically acclaimed albums on the major Indie label, one of which won the highly prized San Francisco Music Award, BAMMY, in 1995 for best album.
Manning moved to Europe in the late 1990s and became a mainstay for several venues as she regularly toured there over several years with her European band, The Go-Luckys!, also releasing three records with them.
Taking a break from touring and recording in early 2000s, Manning completed her Bachelor of Science degree in California and earned three teaching credentials while working as a radio board operator for an NPR member station in Northern California. Now she works as a high school teacher in Southern California when she is not working full time on her music.
She is currently recording and touring as a duo with bassman and guitarist, Buck Campbell who played bass with Minneapolis dance punk favorites, Urban Guerrillas. In February 2023, Manning played as a duo with Campbell to a sold out show in Chicago’s Montrose Saloon. The Manning Duo has a headlining UK tour organized for summer 2023 and an East Coast tour in fall 2023 supporting New York band Codeine. A single will be released in 2023 that features John Convertino of Calexico on drums, Buck Campbell on bass, and Tony Fingers Naranjo on lead guitar.
